Situated in the South West of England Wiltshire borders Hampshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Dorset and Somerset. Wiltshire's county town is Salisbury but there are a number of other notable towns such as the rapidly growing Mere, only 7 miles away from our workshop. Warminster, Westbury, Trowbridge, Devizes, Marlborough and Malmesbury are quintessential Wilshire market towns whilst Chippenham, Swindon and Devizes to the north of the county offer a larger town for shoppers in Wilshire and holiday makers alike.
Places in Wiltshire
The famous Stonehenge and Avebury stone circles World Heritage sites are just a few of the famous Wiltshire prehistoric sights and tourist destinations. However, there are a huge number of beautiful, small villages in Wiltshire which deliver that picture postcard view. Such villages and towns are Wilton, Pewsey, Calne, Melksham, Bradford on Avon, Durrington, Tisbury, East Knoyle The Deverills, Maiden Bradley, Stourton and Whiteparish.
Wiltshire Attractions
There are many attractions in Wiltshire catering for all pockets and interests. From Longleat voted the UK's top Safari park to Stourhead, one of Wiltshire's top National Trust attractions. In addition there is a huge amount of history in Wiltshire ranging from the Neolithic (Stone Age) at Avebury to Durrington Walls hillfort and the racing centre at Thruxton and Castle Combe. The Kennet and Avon Canal runs through Bradford on Avon whilst Royal Wooton Basset is worth a visit for the forces enthusiast with its links to RAF Lyneham whilst Swindon and Cricklade Railway is an unusual day out.
Transport links in Wiltshire
Although Wiltshire has a remote and rural feel to it there are major transport links in or near to the county. The A303 runs on the centre of the county offering a good link to London in about 2 hours. With trains running to London regularly from Tisbury and Salisbury Wiltshire has made a good place to live for those who work in London.
